These bread bowls are perfect for creamy soups, chili, stew, or just to fill with your favourite dip. And the best part….they are ready in 90 minutes including cooling time. Yeasty, crusty, yummy perfection!

  • 1 1/2 cup very warm water
  • 3 pkgs Quick Rise Yeast (2 tbsp + 1 tsp)
  • 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  1. Place warm water, yeast and sugar in large mixer bowl. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until if foams up.
  2. Add all of the salt and then the flour 1 cup at a time mixing last bit in if needed to form a dough that is pulling away from side of mixer bowl.
  3. Dump dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it is not sticky anymore. Dough should be smooth and elastic.IMG_5095
  4. Form into a ball and place in a lightly oiled large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and place in warm area to rise for 30 minutes.
  5. After it has risen preheat oven to 500 degrees F. Punch dough down and divide into 4 roughly equal portions. Form each portion into a ball and place on parchment covered sheet. Lightly score top with a knife. Wet pastry brush some paper towel in warm water and brush tops. Sprinkle a pinch of salt on tops. Let rise for 15 minutes.
  6. Bake for 2 minutes at 500 degrees F. then use pastry brush or towel to once again wet the tops of the breads and lower oven heat to 425 degrees F.
  7. Bake for an additional 15-18 minutes until golden brown all over then remove from oven and rest for at least 15 minutes before cutting the tops off and removing soft center from bottom to fill with your favourite tummy warming soup, stew or chili.
